Rail via Vladivostok is the fastest and usually cheapest route for non-oversized vehicles bound for Almaty and Shymkent. Caspian sea via Aktau is preferred for north-western Kazakhstan (Atyrau, Aktobe) and for shipments routed around Russian transit.
