Korean Vehicles to Pakistan — Karachi & Afghan Transit

Pakistan strictly restricts LHD private imports; viable channels are returning-resident exemptions, diplomatic/commercial, and Afghan re-export via Karachi → Torkham.

Pakistan is a right-hand-drive (RHD) market with one of the most restrictive used-car import regimes in the region — LHD personal vehicles are not permitted for general private import. There are narrow exceptions: the returning-resident scheme (returning Pakistani nationals can bring one personal vehicle with documented overseas residency), diplomatic imports, and project-specific commercial vehicles. The bulk of legitimate Korean LHD flow through Karachi is bonded transit to Afghanistan (LHD) via the Torkham land border.

TOPEX handles Encar sourcing, Busan inspection, export documents and sea shipping to Karachi for clients with a valid clearance path — returning-resident applicants, licensed re-exporters, or Afghan-bound bonded transit. We do not facilitate import structures that breach Pakistani customs regulations. If your route is direct Pakistani registration, we will tell you up-front rather than ship cargo with no legal clearance path.

Why import from Korea to Pakistan?

  • Honest scope advisory — we identify which Pakistani clearance path is viable per shipment
  • Returning-resident scheme paperwork support (FTR, residency proof, ownership timeline)
  • Afghan-bound bonded transit — coordinated with licensed Karachi-Torkham re-exporters
  • Commercial vehicle focus — 1-ton trucks, vans, project SUVs
  • No grey-channel facilitation — if there is no legal clearance route, we will not ship
  • Busan inspection plus full documentation chain to satisfy strict Pakistani customs

Frequently Asked Questions

Generally no. Pakistan permits LHD personal-use imports only under the returning-resident scheme (after documented overseas residency, typically 700+ days), the gift scheme (with specific donor/recipient requirements), or diplomatic exemption. For other private use, Pakistani-spec RHD vehicles must be sourced locally or from a RHD origin market.

Pakistani nationals returning after a qualifying overseas residency period may import one personal vehicle. Documentation includes Foreign Travel Record (FTR), proof of overseas residency, proof of foreign earnings used to buy the car, and matching ownership timeline. We supply the Korean-side documents; the Pakistani filing is handled by your nominated Karachi clearing agent.

Cargo arrives at Karachi under transit bond (not cleared for Pakistani entry), is sealed by Pakistani customs, and is trucked to Torkham border under bonded movement. Afghan customs clears on arrival. Total Busan → Kabul typically 5–7 weeks. Licensed Karachi-Torkham re-exporters handle the bonded leg; TOPEX coordinates Korean-side.

Returning-resident duty is preferential vs commercial import but is still substantial — typically 50–100% of CIF depending on engine size and age. Some categories (hybrids, EVs) may have reduced rates under specific government incentives. Per-VIN quote required.

Karachi has the deep-sea capacity and overland infrastructure to Torkham that Afghanistan's smaller Pakistani-border crossings depend on. For Afghan dealers, Busan → Karachi → Torkham is more reliable than alternative routes through Iran (sanctions complexity) or via Central Asia.
